Communications Associate
Full-time position based in our Sudbury office

Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Associate will play a key role in creating content that engages our community and supports the work of our Revenue Development team, while creating stewardship activities for existing, former, and prospective donors who support United Way Centraide North East Ontario/Nord-est de l’Ontario (UWCNEO). You will be responsible for ensuring that UWCNEO’s donors and supporters feel valued and connected to the work of United Way. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying and creating compelling stories and content for fundraising initiatives, social media engagement, video creation, public relations, newsletterand more.
The Communications Associate will strive to strengthen relationships with key donors, stakeholders, and strategic partners alike, leveraging UWCNEO’s strong brand and identity and translate program strengths and impact into meaningful stakeholder engagement opportunities.
You are highly organized with an incredible eye for detail and have excellent time management and project planning skills. You work well under pressure and tight deadlines when needed and are able to prioritize quickly and effectively. You enjoy building relationships with your team members and with UWCNEO’s valued, external stakeholders. You welcome opportunities to work collaboratively with others and also enjoy tasks where you can work independently.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver an integrated annual marketing and communications plan across all communication media (online and offline) to reach appropriate target audiences.
• Create marketing collateral and assets and implement an annual comprehensive communications plan that promotes brand awareness and community engagement, strengthening the brand of United Way across Northeast Ontario.
• Ensure the impact of our work is captured through video, photographs, and stories, and design and deliver a plan to distribute to donors and partners on a regular basis.
• Create and distribute content across channels that engage stakeholders and leads to measurable engagement (such as volunteering, donations, awareness, and support of programs)
• Ensure all marketing and communications conform to brand identity and that key messages and impact of UWCNEO are accurately represented in internal and external communications.
• Ensure consistency, accuracy and excellence in quality and content of messaging in all materials – with the goal of delivering world class communications assets.
• Work collaboratively with Revenue Development and Community Investment teams to identify, develop, and execute internal/external communications plans and tactics, develop stewardship materials, campaign resources, videos, community impact reports, engagement activities, speeches, and more.
• Write marketing materials, including monthly e-newsletters, blogs, reports, impact sheets and stories, investment guides, cases for support, campaign materials, website, solicitation letters, and more.
• Become knowledgeable in our customer relation management (CRM) database and utilize it to create and distribute targeted messages (newsletters, impact reports, videos, etc.).
• Assist in the management of the website including ensuring the overall look, design, format, function, and navigation remains fresh with current content.
• Develop social media content strategies to increase brand awareness.
• Design collateral for print, web and social media as needed to promote programming.
• Create, manage and strategically utilize video, audio, and still photography recording of key events, campaign collateral.
• Attend community events as assigned.
• Other duties as necessary or as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:
• Degree/diploma in communications, design, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional communications experience, including donor relations, fund development, and strategic/corporate communications.
• Knowledge of the social service sector and experience with community-based/non-profit organizations.
• Exceptional writing skills to create clear, engaging content across various channels (print, web, social, video, presentations, etc.).
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office; skilled in design with an eye for detail.
• Experience with database management and CSM software.
• Expertise in social media and digital marketing.
• Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects independently.
• Collaborative, adaptable, and diplomatic team player with comfort in shifting priorities.
• Creative thinker with strong public speaking skills.
• Flexible schedule availability, including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable vehicle.
• Fluent bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.

What we offer
Permanent position based out of our Sudbury office.
Wage range of $48,000 to $52,000 depending on experience.
Full benefit package, including dental, medical and Employee Assistant Program.
Participation in CAAT DB Pension Plan.
The Communications Associate will work 35 hours a week. A typical work week is from Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30 with occasional evening and weekends. Some travel may be required to meet partners and attend special events.
