UWCNEO believes in a community where all people are supported and have access to social programs and supports. 

Our targeted investments reflect community conditions and are allocated to where they will have the greatest impact. These targeted investments support frontline programs and services in communities throughout the North East District.

UWCNEO’s funding review process ensures that donor dollars raised to support the Community Fund are invested for maximum impact. All applications are reviewed by a team of local experts that provide recommendations to the Allocations Committee, with final funding approval coming from our local Board of Directors. The number of funded programs and allocated amounts are determined annually by dollars raised in the District.

We partner with organizations across North East Ontario in support of programs that help change lives.

  • Amalguin Assists - The District of Parry Sound Employment Services offers training and support for individuals looking to secure meaningful work
  • Keeping Seniors Warm - A United Way program that helps older adults purchase clothing to keep warm all winter long
  • Meals on Wheels - Meal service delivery through the Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada to ensure individuals and families with barriers have access to healthy, nutritious meals
  • Tampon Tuesday - A United Way and Labour initiative that addresses period poverty by collecting and providing menstrual hygiene products to front-line agencies supporting individuals in our community

 

Sudbury Investments

  • French River Food Bank - Supporting food security through the Municipality of French River's community food bank

  • Grocery Program - Providing access to food to individuals who identify as women who are in precarious situations
  • Keeping Seniors Warm - A United Way program that helps older adults purchase clothing to keep warm all winter long
  • Tampon Tuesday - A United Way and Labour initiative that addresses period poverty by collecting and providing menstrual hygiene products to front-line agencies supporting individuals in our community
  • Community Volunteer Income Tax Program - Free income tax preparation to help low-income individuals access funds and benefits available through the Government of Canada
  • Hot Meals Program - Meal service delivered through Meals on Wheels to ensure individuals and families with barriers have access to healthy, nutritious meals

  • Brighter Futures - Food security and education facilitated through the North Eastern Ontario Family and Children's Services
  • Good Food Box - Access to healthy and affordable food through the Iroquois Falls Adult Learning Centre>

  • Aboriginal Secondary School Awards - Providing support and celebrating secondary Indigineous students through a partnership with United Way, Rainbow District School Board and the Catholic School Board
  • Baby's Breath Child and Teen Family Centre - Services geared at supporting young families and their babies through Better Beginnings Better Futures
  • Matching Program - Child and youth mentorship matching facilitated by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Sudbury
  • MindSPACE Youth Hub - The youth hub through Compass/Boussole/Akii-Izhinoogan provides youth with a safe space where they can access mental health services, a nurse practionner, peer connection, basic needs and more
  • Pre-teen Recreation Afterschool Program - Providing a safe space through Better Beginning Better Futures that allows pre-teens to stay connected, access healthy snacks, get homework support and more

  • Homework Club - Bilingual programming designed for children in Grades 1 to 12 who face difficulty in school with reading, writing and/or math through the Timmins Learning Centre
  • Junior Summit Respite - Providing recreational and social opportunities to children with special needs in the community while also providing the caregivers with a period of relief through Access Better Living
  • Ready for School - United Way program for elementary school-aged children needing back-to-school gear to help them start the school year with confidence

Nipissing Investments

  • Program Subsidies - Providing adults living with developmental disabilities the opportunities to paricipate in meaningful programming
  • Victims of Sexual Assault Support - Helping victims of intimate partner violence find safety and shelter
  • Volunteer Resource Centre - Connecting volunteers to opportunities in the community that will help foster engagement, sense of purpose and skills building
  • 2-1-1 - social services helpline available 24/7 in over 150 languages

  • Community Outreach - Vital service connecting vulnerable individuals to services and basic needs through Association des jeunes de la rue
  • Community Support Initiatives - Safety and community reintegration training and support through the John Howard Society
  • Conflict Management Coaching - Providing individuals the tools needed to manage anger and conflicts through Sudbury District Restorative Justice
  • Crisis Support, Outreach and Emergency Sheltering - Providing vulnerable individuals with lifesaving tools and support through YWCA Genevra House
  • Drop-In Centre - Providing individuals experiencing homelessness with access to basic needs, mental health support, and community services referrals through New Hope Outreach Services
  • Exploit No More - Counselling and peer support for survivors of human trafficking through Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking
  • Health Equity and Navigation Supports through the Manitoulin Health Centre
  • Ongoing Support and Volunteer Services - Support services for women and gender diverse people who are at risk of entering the criminal system delivered through Elizabeth Fry Society of Northeast Ontario
  • ParkSide Centre Without Wall - Programming offered to older adults to keep them active and engaged in the community
  • Voices for Women - Shelter and support for self-identifying women and their children escaping domestic violence
  • Volunteer Resource Centre - Connecting volunteers to opportunities in the community that will help foster engagement, sense of purpose and skills building
  • Welcome home - A United Way program helping individuals transitioning to their new home by providing basic necessities
  • 2-1-1 - social services helpline available 24/7 in over 150 languages - funded by United Way
